Welcoming and Local Day Centre For The Elderly In Chelmsford, Essex

As our day care is a form of care, people looking to join will have a needs assessment where they can discuss their healthcare needs and what they want to get out of attending the centre.

Staff have been trained to support people with dementia, learning disabilities, difficult behaviour, and sensory impairment. We also offer personal care, which includes support with going to the toilet, eating, drinking and shopping.

A Safe Space For Everyone

People who are elderly, or have physical difficulties can greatly benefit from our assistance as the day centre can provide great equipment which can help people with daily tasks.

People who have learning difficulties often find socialising more challenging than most people do. Day centres can provide them with the chance to communicate with others in a safe space where they will not be judged. This can help them to feel comfortable with others and significantly boost their confidence.

What does a typical day look like?

Every day at South Woodham Day Centre is different, but you can expect it to be like this:

  • A wheelchair-accessible minibus will come and pick you up from your house to take you to our day centre.

  • Settle into the centre over a cup of tea and a chat

  • Morning activities will begin

  • A freshly prepared hot lunch will be served by our staff.

  • More activities will take place after lunch

  • When the day is over, the minibus will drop you back at your house at an agreed time.

How Can I join The Day Centre?

Older people can be referred to a day centre by a relative, their GP, or can self-refer. Those who are interested in attending the centre may be able to arrange a taster day.

Our day care settings follow similar health and safety guidelines to usual care, so will use PPE when delivering personal care and have procedures in place in the event of an emergency.

Our centre has a wheelchair-accessible minibus to collect attendees from their homes. Although some may prefer to travel independently, transport is planned to ensure that everybody arrives at the day centre, and arrives home afterwards, safely.
